It is an infection caused by protozoa Entamoeba histolytica involving large intestine and clinically characterised by sudden onset of frequent, foul smelling, bulky, semisolid, mucoid stools, with pain over colonic region.

*Signs and symptoms*

a.Weakness, loss of appetite, occasional nausea and vomiting.

b.Coated tongue.

c.Tenderness over caecum and pelvic colon.

d.Repeated episodes of passage of loose stools, alternating with constipation.

e.Stool consists of mucus and blood streak. Abdominal discomfort.

*Homoeopathic management*

*Nux vomica*

 Frequent but ineffectual and anxious effort to evacuate. Constant urging, sensation in rectum of stool which never comes. Or a small portion of faecal matter may be passed, leaving the sensation as if little lump were left behind the rectum, which was yet to come away. Faeces, partly soft or liquid, partly hard with much flatus. Small, loose, aqueous evacuations, or mucous with colic and cuttings, pains in loins and tenesmus, pain as from excoriation in rectum, and burning pain in anus. Whitish or greenish, deep coloured mucous evacuations.

*Aloe socotrina*

 Diarrhoea; has to hurry to closet immediately after eating and drinking, with want of confidence in sphincter ani; driving out of bed early in the morning. When passing flatus, sensation as if stool would pass with it. Colic; cutting, griping pain in right lower portion of abdomen; excruciating, before and during stool;all pains cease after stool ,leaving profuse sweating and extreme weakness .

*Gambogia*

Diarrhoea, with sudden and forcible ejection of bilious stools. Tenesmus after passing stool with burning at anus. Ileo- caecal region sensitive to pressure. Profuse, watery diarrhoea in hot weather, particularly old people. Pain in coccyx. Modalities; worse, towards evening and at night.

*Gratiola*

Nux symptoms in females often met by gratiola. Diarrhoea; green, frothy, watery, followed by anal burning and is forcibly evacuated without pain .

*Sulphur*

Unsuccessful desire for stool. Tenesmus before and after stool. Pressing on the rectum, as if it would protrude. Constant desire for stool, at night. Soft stool, with tenesmus and burning of the anus, followed by emission of hot foetid flatulence. Colic and distention. Watery diarrhoea every half hour, preceded by grumbling in the abdomen, without pain. Frequent frothy diarrhoea, with tenesmus, even at night. Diarrhoea, with tenesmus and cutting in the abdomen.

*Merc sol*

Greenish, bloody and he slimy, worse at night; with pain and tenesmus, Never get-done feeling. Discharge accompanied d by chilliness, sick stomach, cutting colic, and tenesmus. Whitish-gray stools.

*Mercurius corrosivus*

 Dysentery; tenesmus, gnot relieved by stool; incessant. Stool hot, bloody, slimy, offensive, with cutting pains and shreds of mucous membranes.

Calcarea carbonicum: Calcarea carbonica is particularly effective in overweight and fatty, flabby people who have a pale complexion, sweat a lot, and are cold and damp most of the time. Natrum muriaticum: Natrum mur is another important medicine for weight loss. This medicine recommended when there is an overabundance of fat in the thighs and gluteal region compared to other portions of the body. This drug works well for people who have acquired weight as a result of long-term grief.

Lycopodium: Lycopodium is one of the most effective homoeopathic fat-burning medicines. Like the above-mentioned drug Natrum Mur, this is mostly utilised when the thighs and gluteal region contain extra fat. However, the constitutional symptoms that are peculiar to Lycopodium use distinguish these two. Patients who require Lycopodium are those who have been suffering from gastric problems such as flatulence and constipation for a long time. They have craving for sweets. Ignatia amara: When changeable mood, introspective, silently, brooding, melancholic, sad, tearful is the cause of weight gain, Ignatia works well to help an overweight person to lose weight.

Ferrum metallicum: Obesity with anaemia, bloated face, and paleness. Best suited to young, frail people who are anaemic and chlorotic, have pseudo-plethora, blush easily, have cold extremities, and show signs of weakness even when speaking or walking. Skin, mucous membranes, and face are all pale.

Ammonium muriaticum: This Homeopathic medicine for weight loss is particularly effective for those who are overweight and lethargic, with huge deposition of fat in gluteal region and around the abdomen and thin legs.

Q. : What is the grand characteristic of the Bryonia constipation ?

A. : When it is due to dryness of the intestinal tract and the stools are large, dry and brown, as if burnt, and are passed with a great deal of difficulty, owing to an atony of the intestines.

Q. : How does it differ from Nux vomica ?

A. : Nux vom. produces an increased intestinal action, which is irregular, inharmonious and spasmodic, and this hinders rather than favors an evacuation.

Q. : What other drugs besides Bryonia have constipation with atony of the intestines ?

A. : Veratrum album and Opium.

Q. : To what is the constipation of Opium due ?

A. : To complete inactivity of the bowels, owing to a muscular paresis.

Under opium the faces become impacted and are passed in little, hard, dry, black balls, and there is absolutely no urging to stool.

A. : Plumbum has stools consisting of hard, black balls, but there is some constriction of the rectum, showing that there is some activity of the muscles present.

SNORING AND HOMOEOPATHY 

Snoring is the hoarse or harsh sound that occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues in throat, causing the tissues to vibrate as we breathe. Nearly everyone snores now and then, but for some people it can be a chronic problem. Sometimes it may also indicate a serious health condition. In addition, snoring can be a nuisance to our partner. 

Symptoms

Snoring is often associated with a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Not all snorers have OSA, but if snoring is accompanied by any of the following symptoms, it may be an indication to see a doctor for further evaluation for OSA:

Witnessed breathing pauses during sleep

Excessive daytime sleepiness

Difficulty concentrating

Morning headaches

Sore throat upon awakening

Restless sleep

Gasping or choking at night

High blood pressure

Chest pain at night

Snoring is so loud it's disrupting our partner's sleep

In children, poor attention span, behavioral issues or poor performance in school. 

Causes

Snoring can be caused by a number of factors, such as the anatomy of mouth and sinuses, alcohol consumption, allergies, a cold, and over weight. 

When we doze off and progress from a light sleep to a deep sleep, the muscles in the roof of mouth (soft palate), tongue and throat relax. The tissues in throat can relax enough that they partially block airway and vibrate. 

The more narrowed airway, the more forceful the airflow becomes. This increases tissue vibration, which causes  snoring to grow louder. 

Alcohol consumption.Snoring can also be brought on by consuming too much alcohol before bedtime. Alcohol relaxes throat muscles and decreases natural defenses against airway obstruction. 

Nasal problems. Nasal polyps.Chronic nasal congestion or a crooked partition between nostrils (deviated nasal septum) may contribute to snoring. 

Sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep can lead to further throat relaxation. 

Sleep position. Snoring is typically most frequent and loudest when sleeping on the back as gravity's effect on the throat narrows the airway. 

Complications

Habitual snoring may be more than just a nuisance. Aside from disrupting a bed partner's sleep, if snoring is associated with OSA, may be at risk for other complications, including: 

Daytime sleepiness

Frequent frustration or anger

Difficulty concentrating

A greater risk of high blood pressure, heart conditions and stroke

An increased risk of behavior problems, such as aggression or learning problems, in children with OSA

An increased risk of motor vehicle accidents due to lack of sleep

Use of Lemna Minor should also be considered in cases of snoring from swollen nasal turbinates. Lemna Minor is also used in patients whose condition gets worse in damp and rainy weather. Lemna Minor helps in dissolving the polyps as well the complaints arising from them. 

CHINA

China is an excellent homeopathic medicine for snoring. It works well for snoring in children. A child with this problem has loud, heavy snoring during sleep. Moaning may also be present along with snoring during sleep. In the morning, the child feels weary and confused. The patient is drowsy and sleepy throughout the day. 

Some other very important medicines that can be used as homeopathic treatment for snoring are Kali Sulph, Nux Vomica, Dulcamara, and Laurocerasus. Among them, Kali Sulph is helpful when snoring persists even after the removal of the adenoids. Nux Vomica works well in cases of loud snoring with shallow, oppressed breathing during sleep. The main symptoms that point to the use of Dulcamara are nose blockage, open mouth and snoring during sleep. Laurocerasus is used for snoring when there is a suffocated feeling and gasping for breath present. Anxiety and restlessness while going to sleep may also be present.

Arnica 

 

This remedy is often indicated for relief of soreness that comes from physical exertion and muscle strain. It is also useful for soreness after labor and delivery, and for hemorrhoids that follow childbirth. 

 

Calcarea phosphorica 

 

This remedy can help to strengthen a woman who tends toward easy tiredness, poor digestion, cold hands and feet, and poor absorption of nutrients. Some women who need this remedy find only "junk food" appealing during pregnancy, or have cravings for smoked and salty food. A history of easy tooth decay and aching bones and joints can also suggest a need for this remedy. A person who needs Calc phos is often irritable because of tiredness, and may long for travel or a change of circumstances. 

 

Caulophyllum 

 

This remedy may be helpful to women with weak muscle tone in the uterus. A history of irregular periods, slow and difficult labor with previous deliveries, or weakness of the cervix may bring this remedy to mind. The woman may feel erratic pains like sticking needles, or episodes of contracting pain. She typically feels nervous, shaky, and trembling (sometimes irritable, as well). 

 

Carbo vegetabilis 

 

This remedy can be helpful to a woman who feels weak and faint during pregnancy, with poor circulation, a general feeling of coldness, and a craving for fresh or moving air. She may also have frequent digestive upsets with burning pain and a tendency to belch. A woman who is deeply tired from overwork, many pregnancies close together, or a previous illness may regain some strength with Carbo vegetabilis. 

 

Cimicifuga (also called Actaea racemosa) 

 

This remedy can be helpful to women who are nervous and talkative, with a tendency to feel fearful and gloomy during pregnancy. They may become overagitated and fear a miscarriage — sometimes having pains that feel like labor pains too early, or pains that shoot from hip to hip and down the thighs. 

 

Ferrum metallicum 

 

A woman who has a sturdy build, but looks very pale and weary—flushing red from any exertion or emotion—may respond to this remedy. Ferrum is often helpful in correcting anemic tendencies.

Homeopathic Remedies for sinusitis : 

1) Heper sulph- Nasal congestion by exposure to dry cold air. Nasal congestion associates with cough which are worse at morning and evening.

Hydrastis - Thick, yellowish, tenacious ropy secretion from posterior part of throat. Mostly used for PND (Post nasal drip) with thick nasal discharge. Tthe differential diagnosis of two medicines - in Kali bi there is more stringy like discharge, but in hydrastis more thick discharge

Merc sol - It is also have symptom of thick nasal discharge. here in this case the nasal discharge is yellowish-green and acrid in nature i.e. burning feeling. The inner nasal mucus membrane are corroded and ulcerated due to the thick acrid discharge. Another important symptom in Merc sol is more salivation associates with all diseases.

Spigelia - Spigelia is given for sinus headache when the pain is located on left-side frontal portion of head. There is also severe pain in and around the eyes. Even little eye movement aggravate the pain. The headache of spigelia starts at morning and gradually increases in intensity up to the noon and then decreases. The pain is worse in heat of sun or getting exposure to sun. There is also PND symptom associate with headache.

Arum triphlinum- Nasal congestion in spite of thin nasal discharge. It is associates with laryngitis i.e. hoarseness of voice with pain on talking. The  of sinusitis. 

Phosphorus

An individual with alternative episodes of stuffy nose and fluent nasal discharge should take this medicine. The medicine also cures other symptoms such as dullness in the head, soreness in the throat and the voice becoming hoarse. The mucus can also have stains of blood due to the continuous blowing of the nose. Moreover, there is no sense of smell or taste. In addition to treating all these symptoms, Phosphorus also helps in curing there is pressure around the eyes. 

Generally, lying down in a warm room helps in getting relief from headaches caused due to sinusitis. However, in some people, it doesn’t. Under such instances, people should consider this medicine. Activities such as sitting, stooping, rising from lying down, and eating can aggravate the pain. The pain is usually in the frontal part and accompanies digestive disorders. People who spend most of their time at work are likely to develop these kinds of sinusitis symptoms.

leucorrhoea is a flow of  whitish, yellowish, or greenish discharge from the vagina of the female that may be normal or that may be a sign of infection. 

Such discharges may originate from the vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, or, most commonly, the cervix.

*Causes*

Most causes of abnormal vaginal discharge are--

*Aesculus hippocastanum*

 Chronic muco-purulent catarrh, dark, yellow, thick and stringy, corroding. Retroversion of the uterus, which is enlarged and indurated, with heat and throbbing. With the discharge there is marked lameness across the sacro-iliac articulation. Hemorrhoids, constipation, and congestion of the portal system. Neuralgic pains that fly rapidly from spot to spot. Stunning pain in the head with extreme irritability. 

*Alumen*

Copious mucc-purulent catarrh from an eroded cervix. The uterus is hard, and denuded spots and granulations are found in the vagina. The discharge is irritating, inducing pruritus vagina. There is extreme sensitiveness of the vagina interfering with an examination. The left ovary is enlarged, sensitive, and the seat of severe pain. There is constipation from dryness of the rectum, the hard faeces being expelled with difficulty. It is characteristic of the urine of Alumen that it is covered with an oily iridescent film.

*Alumina*

Very profuse transparent catarrh, acrid, corrosive, aggravated during the day. Thin, light yellow excoriating discharge, inducing inflammation and swelling of the vagina. The urine passing over the parts causes intense burning. Prolapsus of the uterus. Deep erosions of the cervix.

*Ambra grisea* 

Bluish white catarrh accompaning nymphomania. Thick mucous catarrh during the night. Pruritus vulva. Soreness and swelling of the vulva. All the uterine symptoms are aggravated by lying down. Ambra grisea will be thought of for the catarrh of young ,.nervous girls who suffer from chlorosis, or when the catarrh follows a protracted illness from which recuperation has been slow.

*Ammonium carbonicum*

 Acrid, watery, burning

catarrh causing excoriation and ulceration of the vulva, with sloughing. There is congestion and excitement of the sexual organs. Hysteria, with listlessness, and lethargy. Hemorrhagic diathesis from fluidity of the blood. Indicated for stout women who lead a sedentary life, and readily take cold in winter.

*Borax* 

Catarrh like the white of egg, with sensation as

if warm water were flowing over the parts. White albuminous or scanty discharge. Acrid catarrh between the menses. Profuse clear gelatinous discharge relieving all the other genital symptoms. Aphthae of the vagina and vulva.

*Bovista* 

Catarrh a few days after, or a few days before menstruation, resembling the white of egg, aggravated while walking. Yellow, green, acrid, corrosive discharge that leaves green spots on the clothing. Thick, slimy, tough discharge. Soreness between the labia, and thighs. Tendency to moist eruptions on the skin. The mental state is one of irritability, with inclination to misconstrue the motives of others.

*Lilium tigrinum*

Constant, mild profuse catarrh that stains the linen greenish yellow. Thin acrid excoriating discharge leaving a brown stain on the linen. Bright yellow catarrh, excoriating the pudendum. Bearing down, and distress in the pelvic region. Must hold herself together. Dry mealy spots on the labia, with intolerable itching. All the uterine ligaments and supports are relaxed. Offensive catarrh resembling the white of egg, with dull pain in the ovaries. Almost constant backache. Chronic ovaritis and neuralgia of the ovaries.

*Phosphorus*

Milky, excoriating catarrh during menses, with cold hands and feet, and cutting in the left ovarian region. In the place of the menses, a white, watery mucus; acrid and excoriating catarrh, causing blisters and soreness. Slimy, bloody catarrh in old women. Stitches running from the vagina into the pelvis.
