Snorring

SNORING AND HOMOEOPATHY 

Snoring is the hoarse or harsh sound that occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues in throat, causing the tissues to vibrate as we breathe. Nearly everyone snores now and then, but for some people it can be a chronic problem. Sometimes it may also indicate a serious health condition. In addition, snoring can be a nuisance to our partner. 

Symptoms

Snoring is often associated with a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Not all snorers have OSA, but if snoring is accompanied by any of the following symptoms, it may be an indication to see a doctor for further evaluation for OSA:

Witnessed breathing pauses during sleep

Excessive daytime sleepiness

Difficulty concentrating

Causes

Snoring can be caused by a number of factors, such as the anatomy of mouth and sinuses, alcohol consumption, allergies, a cold, and over weight. 

When we doze off and progress from a light sleep to a deep sleep, the muscles in the roof of mouth (soft palate), tongue and throat relax. The tissues in throat can relax enough that they partially block airway and vibrate. 

The more narrowed airway, the more forceful the airflow becomes. This increases tissue vibration, which causes  snoring to grow louder. 

Alcohol consumption.Snoring can also be brought on by consuming too much alcohol before bedtime. Alcohol relaxes throat muscles and decreases natural defenses against airway obstruction. 

Nasal problems. Nasal polyps.Chronic nasal congestion or a crooked partition between nostrils (deviated nasal septum) may contribute to snoring. 

Sleep deprivation. Not getting enough sleep can lead to further throat relaxation. 

Sleep position. Snoring is typically most frequent and loudest when sleeping on the back as gravity's effect on the throat narrows the airway. 

Complications

Habitual snoring may be more than just a nuisance. Aside from disrupting a bed partner's sleep, if snoring is associated with OSA, may be at risk for other complications, including: 

Daytime sleepiness

Frequent frustration or anger

Difficulty concentrating

A greater risk of high blood pressure, heart conditions and stroke

An increased risk of behavior problems, such as aggression or learning problems, in children with OSA

An increased risk of motor vehicle accidents due to lack of sleep

OPIUM

Some other very important medicines that can be used as homeopathic treatment for snoring are Kali Sulph, Nux Vomica, Dulcamara, and Laurocerasus. Among them, Kali Sulph is helpful when snoring persists even after the removal of the adenoids. Nux Vomica works well in cases of loud snoring with shallow, oppressed breathing during sleep. The main symptoms that point to the use of Dulcamara are nose blockage, open mouth and snoring during sleep. Calcarea phosphorica 

 

This remedy can help to strengthen a woman who tends toward easy tiredness, poor digestion, cold hands and feet, and poor absorption of nutrients. Some women who need this remedy find only "junk food" appealing during pregnancy, or have cravings for smoked and salty food. A history of easy tooth decay and aching bones and joints can also suggest a need for this remedy. A person who needs Calc phos is often irritable because of tiredness, and may long for travel or a change of circumstances. 

 

Caulophyllum 

 

This remedy may be helpful to women with weak muscle tone in the uterus. A history of irregular periods, slow and difficult labor with previous deliveries, or weakness of the cervix may bring this remedy to mind. The woman may feel erratic pains like sticking needles, or episodes of contracting pain. She typically feels nervous, shaky, and trembling (sometimes irritable, as well). 

 

Carbo vegetabilis 

 

This remedy can be helpful to a woman who feels weak and faint during pregnancy, with poor circulation, a general feeling of coldness, and a craving for fresh or moving air. She may also have frequent digestive upsets with burning pain and a tendency to belch. A woman who is deeply tired from overwork, many pregnancies close together, or a previous illness may regain some strength with Carbo vegetabilis. 

 

Cimicifuga (also called Actaea racemosa) 

 

This remedy can be helpful to women who are nervous and talkative, with a tendency to feel fearful and gloomy during pregnancy. They may become overagitated and fear a miscarriage — sometimes having pains that feel like labor pains too early, or pains that shoot from hip to hip and down the thighs. 

 

Ferrum metallicum 

 

A woman who has a sturdy build, but looks very pale and weary—flushing red from any exertion or emotion—may respond to this remedy. Ferrum is often helpful in correcting anemic tendencies.

1) Heper sulph- Nasal congestion by exposure to dry cold air. Nasal congestion associates with cough which are worse at morning and evening.

Hydrastis - Thick, yellowish, tenacious ropy secretion from posterior part of throat. Mostly used for PND (Post nasal drip) with thick nasal discharge. Tthe differential diagnosis of two medicines - in Kali bi there is more stringy like discharge, but in hydrastis more thick discharge

Merc sol - It is also have symptom of thick nasal discharge. here in this case the nasal discharge is yellowish-green and acrid in nature i.e. burning feeling. The inner nasal mucus membrane are corroded and ulcerated due to the thick acrid discharge. Another important symptom in Merc sol is more salivation associates with all diseases.

Spigelia - Spigelia is given for sinus headache when the pain is located on left-side frontal portion of head. There is also severe pain in and around the eyes. Even little eye movement aggravate the pain. The headache of spigelia starts at morning and gradually increases in intensity up to the noon and then decreases. The pain is worse in heat of sun or getting exposure to sun. There is also PND symptom associate with headache.

Arum triphlinum- Nasal congestion in spite of thin nasal discharge. It is associates with laryngitis i.e. hoarseness of voice with pain on talking. The  of sinusitis. 

Phosphorus

An individual with alternative episodes of stuffy nose and fluent nasal discharge should take this medicine. The medicine also cures other symptoms such as dullness in the head, soreness in the throat and the voice becoming hoarse. The mucus can also have stains of blood due to the continuous blowing of the nose. Moreover, there is no sense of smell or taste. In addition to treating all these symptoms, Phosphorus also helps in curing there is pressure around the eyes. 

Generally, lying down in a warm room helps in getting relief from headaches caused due to sinusitis. However, in some people, it doesn’t. Under such instances, people should consider this medicine. Activities such as sitting, stooping, rising from lying down, and eating can aggravate the pain. The pain is usually in the frontal part and accompanies digestive disorders. There is constipation from dryness of the rectum, the hard faeces being expelled with difficulty. It is characteristic of the urine of Alumen that it is covered with an oily iridescent film.

*Alumina*

Very profuse transparent catarrh, acrid, corrosive, aggravated during the day. Thin, light yellow excoriating discharge, inducing inflammation and swelling of the vagina. The urine passing over the parts causes intense burning. Prolapsus of the uterus. Deep erosions of the cervix.

*Ambra grisea* 

Bluish white catarrh accompaning nymphomania. Thick mucous catarrh during the night. Pruritus vulva. Soreness and swelling of the vulva. All the uterine symptoms are aggravated by lying down. Ambra grisea will be thought of for the catarrh of young ,.nervous girls who suffer from chlorosis, or when the catarrh follows a protracted illness from which recuperation has been slow.

*Ammonium carbonicum*

 Acrid, watery, burning

catarrh causing excoriation and ulceration of the vulva, with sloughing. There is congestion and excitement of the sexual organs. Hysteria, with listlessness, and lethargy. Hemorrhagic diathesis from fluidity of the blood. Indicated for stout women who lead a sedentary life, and readily take cold in winter.

*Borax* 

Catarrh like the white of egg, with sensation as

if warm water were flowing over the parts. White albuminous or scanty discharge. Acrid catarrh between the menses. Profuse clear gelatinous discharge relieving all the other genital symptoms. Aphthae of the vagina and vulva.

*Bovista* 

Catarrh a few days after, or a few days before menstruation, resembling the white of egg, aggravated while walking. Yellow, green, acrid, corrosive discharge that leaves green spots on the clothing. Thick, slimy, tough discharge. Soreness between the labia, and thighs. Tendency to moist eruptions on the skin. The mental state is one of irritability, with inclination to misconstrue the motives of others.

*Lilium tigrinum*

Constant, mild profuse catarrh that stains the linen greenish yellow. Thin acrid excoriating discharge leaving a brown stain on the linen. Bright yellow catarrh, excoriating the pudendum. Bearing down, and distress in the pelvic region. Must hold herself together. Dry mealy spots on the labia, with intolerable itching. All the uterine ligaments and supports are relaxed. Offensive catarrh resembling the white of egg, with dull pain in the ovaries. Almost constant backache. Chronic ovaritis and neuralgia of the ovaries.
